New Topics view

Post by mharney »

The previous ACTIVE TOPICS view did not expire - this one does, and only shows what topics are NEW or CHANGED since your last visit, which makes it harder to track hot topics. Maybe you should add the previous view to the menu so there is a ranking order (by last post) of active topics.

The site is pretty nice, btw.. hadn't mentioned it yet, so there it is.

Not exactly sure what you are talking about. When I look at the topic lists for a forum I see the ones with the newest posts first, and I see topics that haven't had any new posts.

No I mean in the "New Topics view. It used to just rank them instead of writing to a cookie. Now if you look at New Topics, and then close the browser and then re-open that page it is empty, since you have seen them. The Active Topics view USED TO just rank the latest ones, regardless of whether you have seen them already or not.

To clarify (again)

When one hits the NEW TOPICS link you get a list of the topics you have not viewed (or listed) previously that have changed since the last time you viewed the new topics list.

What I want to see:

A view that gives the last (say 25 or so - whatever) topics that have been posted to, INDEPENDENT of whether I have looked at them or not.

For instance, when I click the link to see new topics I see a list of topics I have not viewed or listed since they have changed. Close the browser and reconnect to the site, they are all gone if no one has posted in that short interval. So you guys are keeping track of what I have listed or viewed and returning results based on that. The command being http://www.shoptalkforums.com/search.ph ... d=newposts

What about a command like http://www.shoptalkforums.com/search.ph ... ecentposts that returns the last X topics that have been posted to (like hot topics or similar), NOT keeping track of what I have listed or viewed, so that each time I connect and view, I can see those whether I have already viewed them or not.

Is there a string I can use to do this? Please?

Oh.... ok, so you want an option to be able to see the last 25 posts?

isn't that what has always been displayed when you enter any forum on this site?  ...but instead of the last 25, it shows all topics in the order of which topic was posted to last

Perhaps actually reading what I wrote will help.

Perhaps not.

The Active Topics
.............A view that gives the last (say 25 or so - whatever) topics that have been posted to, .............INDEPENDENT of whether I have looked at them or not.

What is so hard to understand?

It is fustrating to lose track of subjects just because you have closed out your browser.
