Anyone else is Las Vegas?

Post by 1968Ghia »

I've been in Las Vegas for 3 years and have had problems finding a shop that has a clue about a KG. I've been to several 'VW' repair shops but have come away with more problems that weren't there when I took the car in. I'm mostly looking for a good shop to do basic mechanical maintenance and soon, body and paint work. Again, needs to be someone that knows what a KG is and is supposed to look like.

8) Suggest you learn to do mechanical yourself. I got tired of paying mechanics to not fix things or make them worse. I even went to mechanics who only worked on aircooled VW. Paint and body is different.

I have my set of metric wrenches and a set of screwdrivers...now I just need to get a clue. I have the Idiot's book and chiltons. Should I get Bentley as well? Any other tools that are highly recommended? Karmann is mechanically and electrically sound, but still needs regular stuff done. Timing seems to go out every couple of months even without driving it. I can't do anything too extensive in my driveway or the homeowner's association will be hauling me off to jail. They are always saying my car is abandoned even though it runs, looks good, is licensed, registered and fully insured. Guess it is because I keep it on the street. Go figure.
I do plan on replacing my window regulator myself and also doing the interior. Just have to get up to speed on mechanical stuff.

:P I like the Clymer book but they are out of print. You can still get copies from ebay or used book dealers. The Bentley is good too. I learned to fix one thing at a time getting tools as I need them. Good luck
