reduction gear adapters

I bought a set of Thing reduction gear adapters on ebay awhile ago. I am going to put them on my 63 baja bug. I made new spring plates from 1/4 coreten steel and welded in the spline hubs from a old set of bent spring plates.
Does any one have any pictures of these adapters on Things, because there is a left and right, and don't know which is which, or can someone tell me by the part number on the adapters which is which.

From what I read here:
http://www.geocities.com/vwtyp181/181_3-4.htm
it looks like you might've been able to use `61-`63 bus parts...
"Chassis serial up to 183 2346 524 (Mexico: 183 2493 402): the rear brake drum (VW part no. 211 501 615 E) on the VW 181 with swing axle transaxle (plus reduction gears) is the same as on the August 1960 - July 1963 type 2 (Bus) with that transaxle layout. Note: although the Bus brake drum will interchange with the splines and brake shoes of the VW 181, the lug nuts are the larger 14 mm size."

Marc, The tranny with the reductions gear are from a 64 VW van, now it is in my bug. The adaptors are from a Thing and it fits between the reductions gear boxes and the spring plates, it is more of a spacer then a adaptor. Things used a one of type spring plate when they put that type of tranny in. What I need to know is which adaptor (spacer) is left and which one is for the right.

Click here to find out the details on how to install gear reduction into a Bug:

You will also see diagrams as to how the swing axle Thing works.

Is anyone familiar with the orignal Thing, which came from the factory with reduction gears?
