Tranny Bar Front Mounts?

Post by vwbill »

Hey Looking for the tranny bar two mounts. Does anyone know of a source or cross reference? Is the only option to take it in to a bearing type shop and try to match the three points on the mount? Thanks again Bill :)

Are you looking for the two mounts...bonded rubber ...that car on the upper crossbar that is at the line where the transmission meets the engine? Or the two on the rear hanger bar? The rear hanger bar mounts are available from Rocky mountain Motor works for about $10 ea. Part #021 199 231 C. The upper bar mounts are the same as used on an Automatic version. I do not know the parts #. Are you sure yours are bad? Do not assemble without them. The whole power package is actually balanced on the upper crossmember. You could make a pair out of a couple of blocks of urethane...shape them with a low speed sander...drill an undersized hole for themetal bushing and tap it in. I'm just not positive yet how to attach the thing to the upper plate that bolts to the crossmember. I will think about it. Ray

Tranny front Bar Mounts

Post by vwbill »

Hey Ray, Thanks for the front motor bar mount numbers! I was looking at the rear bar that holds the tranny from the top at the engine connection.
The mount has the two holes going straight up into the body with a spacer bar and the other a cross bolt through the horizontal tranny bar.
I was cleaning the tranny area more and was looking at the two mounts and they look cracked some at the two sides of the triangle rubber of that carries the load to the tranny bar bolts. Doesnt look all the way through the mount. They said the fishe said NA....... :( Hey the heater looks in clean shape! Couldnt find a back-up swtch boot on the tranny but I think I can get one from a beetle or van or help kit or use silicone. They did find me the clutch disc new and the other goodies to do that end and the front main seal but have to get that fan pulled, yikes. Hey they said the coil is the same as the bug bosch blue coil but the one on my car is black with a beign top, lol. They couldnt find the original type bamboo vinyl at the shop but they did find patterns for the set. Just went for the closes vinyl to the bamboo for the driver seat and just repadded the rest of the seats. Well thank again for all the great help!! :D Bill

Bill, take Tom up on that. These are non-existant. Do not get rid of your old bushings yet though. They are strange looking. They have lots of mold flashing. They may not actually be cracked. They do not usually get destroyed on the 4 speed. But...if they are, that is a sure sign that either the bonded bush on the tranny is missing or seatroyed or the alignment of the whol engine/tranny unit was off. Do you mean to tell me you know someone with patterns for the seats? Cool! Who is this? Ray
