I just finished doing the "spin" check on the case clearancing of my 84mm stroked wasser case. It does a 360 with a single rod and piston moved between and installed in each hole! Now need to pick up some clay and see just how much (or how close!) the clearances really are. One thing for sure, it's a Bunch tougher doing this to an aluminum case compared to a mag. But there is a plus side, there is more room in the "factory" alloy case, so a bit less hand work needed.
Next step, the oiling system.

I just pulled the center two out. I have a center main bearing web I cut out of a mag t1 case that I use to hold a crank in a case half. I can rotate everything on my engine stand and not have a Berg crank fall on the ground or my foot
. Really has been a nice addition to my collection of specialty VW tools.
My partner was over last night looking at it, he is just yanking head studs out of a wasser case. His will be 86 x 96 (maybe 94?) in a 2.1 case.

Cool.... the more out there the better.
Are you using those Porsche-Journal H-Beam rods in that motor?
I ended up with the crank that those came from... Putting together an econo sand motor... I'll have about $600.00 into the whole longblock. I'm a gamblin man.
88X 94 with dells and a drysump. I'm gunna see if I can't convert that crank into a two piece :~)
I have a sand-rail friend W/ a Scat cracker Crank, four seasons on an 84 Flange crank that has a couple small cracks in it...
I need some rods... I was going to modify some chevy journal H-Beams to Porsche width, and regrind the crank to 2.00" 89 stroke.
Let me know if you want to sell / Trade 'em... or know of any others...
I'm also looking for some 2.1 Wasser cranks.
Thanks, - Joe
Now I just want to put it together for a good thrashing

My crank is a Berg Porsche journal, all t4 mains, with Carillo 5.5" rods. My buddies is a Berg 86 Porsche, t4 center main and 5.5" Carillos.
not sure which set of rods you are referring to, I had a set of 5.352s that I couldn't use and they moved on rather quickly, then the 5.5s appeared, and I think they were for an 88 crank(?)
I have a set of Pauter 5.4 Porsche rods for sale. Not cheap, and absolutely perfect, just back from Pauter for a check up.

Well I'm lookin to spend $200.00 - $300.00 for something in great shape or rebuildable... Those might be more cash than this motor is worth.
I have alot of stuff to trade too... if that might interest you. I do precision, custom heads, you know my Quality level.
I guesss you got those rods out of Canada.... they came off this Crank.
If they are the ones, maybe I can get a set of 5.5's... that would work better for this motor as it is going to be built like a truck motor.
