SCAT Volkstroker II - Opinions?

Post by Tuborg »

In the middle of rebuilding a 72 Super from pretty much the ground up. I've picked a lot of info by reading this site! Here are the parts my brother and I already bought to build an engine:

-Full flow aluminum case bored out to allow 90.5/92mm cylinders and a stroked crank
-dual Weber 44 IDFs
-AJ Sims Level 6 Heads

We intend to build a 82x90.5 (2110cc) engine. Since this is our first attempt, we were thinking of just going with the Volkstroker II to simplify some of the choices we need to make. Obviously there are trade offs in doing this, but I figured it'd make some things easier.

So my question, is there any reason why we may regret this choice vs. buying all the internals seperately? The only issue I have read on this forum is with the SCAT cast crank, but the Volkstroker II has a forged crank.

If it makes a difference, I was thinking of running a medium to mild cam with 1.25 rockers all around 8:1 compression.

And the big question: what's the probability of getting into the 150hp range with this setup?

ensure that you set your end play up on the bench, do not wait till you are almost finished with the engine to do so. I have had a problem with these cranks having enough end play and even had to machine bearings and flywheels to get enough with 3 shims....

Where would the their crank have to be ground to eliminate this problem. It may be a quality control error from them. They could be contacted about this problem?
