i think i know the answer but did a search and couldn't find anything.

i have a lot of work to do on my 72 basketcase and am trying to fit everything into my budget. this car will not be "restored" but i want it to last as it will be driven and loved for many years to come.

jc whitney offers replacement body pannels for the lower sections of ghias (rockers, lower fender/quarter, wheel arch).. have any of you used these panels and do they fit? or should i just go for the replacments from kgp&r.

thanks

Seth, you KNOW the answer!

I've never bought KG panels from JCW. But over the years I've been into VWs, I bought plenty of stuff there. (They were the only place in Chicago that sold VW stuff. Now there is none!)

Their stuff is usually the lowest quality that can be had. They do not employ VW knowledable folks. They rip you off on shipping.

The only thing I'd buy from Just Crap Whitney would be books or videos.

I think most of KGPR's prices are reasonable.

yeah... i was just hoping that if they were real metal panels, they would work like any other metal panels (even if some fitting was required). i know there won't be a problem with anything i get from kgp&r. i might as well get cracking. thanks..

Good decision Seth - go for the KGPR panels. Everyone there is really knowledgeable and nice. I think it is important to support the folks that are 100% committed to keeping Ghias alive.

Does KGPR have a website? I tried KGPR.com and it came up as a public relations firm
Thanks

:D Totally agreed with air-cooled head. I have been buying from JC whitney since the store was at south downtown Chicago and their parts are mostly poor quality. I did heater channels and pan-half replacements on my 73 ghia (body-on). It took me 2 summers. I will do some repairs a little bit every year so I have time left to enjoy it. About the replacement panels, I got mine from KGP&R. They are very good both Tech. Info. help and friendly. Another important thing (at least to me) when you order parts, please mention that you want what made by J.P. Group (Denmark). I think their quality is much better than TABCO (made in China).

21 years later... I just couldn't help myself.

Back in the day I loved ordering from JC Whitney! Some of the junk was the junkiest junk you ever saw- but some was top notch. I think the last thing I ordered from them was CV joints. They were German, came with lube, couldn't read the literature because it was Deutsch!
