I am starting to work on the fender replacement of Herr Kubelmann. The original fender bolts are shot and are to be replaced with stainless steel units. Aircooled.net has 4 fender sets (114 pieces) for $30 for hex head and $34 for allen or button head bolts. Is there any advantage to using allen or button head? K-mann

We just went through the same thing as you, we bought the bolts for the fenders at Lowes, and alot cheaper.

They are the 8-1.25 and come in different lengths, if your interested that is?

Thanks. I ended up pulling fender bolts from a donor car but the Lowes tip is good for me as we have one in the next nearest town to me and I bet they will also have other metric hardware. Thanks again for the feedback K-mann

For the pan to body i used the original bolts with washers, for the fenders the bolts we purchased at Lowes are just fine.

We are not going to be building a stock looking Thing anyways, ours is lowered in the front and getting ready to lower the rear this weekend, at least 4.5 inches.

Trying to find out where i can get ahold of coilovers for the front instead of the traditional select-a-drop, do not want to cut up the front end, plus with coilovers i can drop as much as i want.

The motor is being built after we get the body work done over the next few weeks, molding in the fenders, and such, and thanks to a very nice person on this site i got a free original hardtop.

Coil overs wont drop the front..... The front shocks are not what hold the Thing in the air... There are torsion bars inside of the beam that are the springs that hold the car up..

If you want to lower it either get a front beam off a a bug (or Ghia with disk brakes ) and that will get you about a 2 inch drop. Otherwise go for the lowering spindles

It will lower it if you take out the 2 center bolts so the torsion bars do not lock.

This is also the way to use airbags in front, otherwise your going to have to use the Select-A-Drop system.
