OK, I've been into hi-po T1's and know a little about T4's, but I'm new to all this stuff. I've checked out the "gearheads" site, but still have a few Q's.
I have access to some waterboxer engines/cases at a local shop. How can I tell if they're any good? If they're laying around, then they were pulled from a car for some reason....what generally goes wrong with them? How can I inspect them?
How/Who does the machine work to get the water jackets off? Can any competent machinist do it? What are the measurements, i.e., how much to cut off?
T1 cranks and rods can be used? What about T1 stroker cranks? How strong is the waterboxer crank?
All this caught my attention because of the new cylinders that accept Chevy 101.4" pistons. If you use the 101" bore, then I don't need to do the stud conversion, right? Just get some big honking heads...Comp Elimin., Super Flows, or something, with the correct stud spacing, right?
Tell me about cam availability....any T1 cam or is there something I'm missing here?
How many of these are on the streets and give me your experiences.
Any other info/websites on this conversion will be appreciated. Sorry if some of these questions are old or dumb, but I'm new to this stuff.
Oh, what about clutch/flywheel/PP ?
Thanks!

That should cover most of your questions.
The PP and fly are T4 210mm. You can use larger but clearancing is required.
Most all the T5 engines I have seen die from head gasket leaks. Which makes them great cores for what we want to do to oxy them

Tell me more please

Right, but you need the special heads $$$ which might not be streatable. Which is a the killer
