Type 5 engine kits.....
Hello, everyone, long time no see.... :~)
I'm considering a deal with a well-known parts supplier who advertises / visits this forum, and has an excellent reputation for QUALITY and service....
This is the possible deal... I do six to ten Oxy motors from his supplied cores... He does the marketing, sales, support, ect... I work with him based on my previous development, and continued support..
He does what he does best, -inteligent answers to difficult Questions, promt service, and basically deal with all the stuff I don't have time to do.
The question is???? How many serious customers are out there wanting to send in a case, or buy outright Oxyboxers (type 5) crankases.... Fully prepared W/ inspection report... and a Guarantee.... like a 30 day opportunity to have it critiqued.
Possibly as a complete kit, ready to be put together... compresion ratio / deck height established (you gotta get the P's &C's from him).... heads, cam, Blah, Blah, Blah... For your general application. Custom applications available on request for a little more $$$$, and lead time.
I preffer the all-out route, six case hardened-bullet nosed shuffle pins, bushed lifter bores, drilled and tapped oil galleys, re-located studs, decked W/ about .150" of the original water jacket hanging over.... This will be the basic work performed... other mods available on request.
These cases would be square and plumb within a gnat's a$$ for equalll compression heights, square to C/L of line bore, maybe even some heads prepared by my standards. Basically mail order blueprinted cases W/ a 3-D iso view (technicle drawing) stating all measured specifications, tolerences, ect... Guaranteed quality W/ the no- B.S. return policy for a legit reason.
I guess what I need to know.... are there ten SERIOUS customers willing to run up front W/ the best, newest, thing to come around for a long time?
I am considering an attractive price to do these cases.... and have the whole werks available for the experienced / proffesional builder, -or qualified shop... A deal that would keep me busy doing what I do best, and still keep the price down where it's affordable, and worthwhile for all people involved...
Now is the time to speak up !!!! let's here what you would like to see in a kit, or whole motor assembly.... - If there is some good response here.... things could start moving quickly.
- Thanks, - Joe

I would also like to mention, that I would be available to answer questions on this Forum for those needing tech support....
All sales would go thru the supplier.... I'm going to go exclusive thru him for all my parts too... Pending some final arrangements :~)
I would really like to see a bunch of folks enjoying this motor combo...
I personally have swapped almost all of my personal motors over to Type 5 (I still have 1 Type I), and I can't see anything in the future that's besting this move.
Thanks again, - Joe

I just put together a 2276 cc type 1 last March for a friend. He provided one of those sand cast aluminum cases. By the time we got it bored for 94's, stroke relieved, we had about $500 in it At fiinal assembly, the center main was .001 too tight. I had to waste a couple of hours setting up my boiring bar to cut just the center main .001 max.
I would consider the type 5 route on my next project., especially if the cost/benefit equation made sense.

Re: Type 5 engine kits.....
I think a lot of people would definitely be interested. Personally I am quite interested in acquiring something like this, however I'd need a ballpark price before I could absolutely say I'd pick one of these up.

If I was staying air cooled you would have my money already;-)
Pairing up with another business that does an awesome job at what you
cannot is what makes things work for all involved.
A team can Play to your individual strengths...
One question:
Does anyone make a T1 head that has good cooling that will handle
a 4"+ bore?
Would modified wasser heads (still water cooled with AC jugs) perform well enough
to justify going that route? (std stud location...)
For a turbo setup, that might be optimal...?
Good luck.
PS: I have found a possible source for seamless aluminum pipe for my project.
It used to be HP gas cylinders... 1/2" wall.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Possible for my 914 Project...
Joe-
I just became aware of the "oxyboxer" today and have spent the afternoon reading up. Sounds like it might be a better alternative to a "high end" Type IV I have been considering. Now, to your question of finding 10 customers for the type 5 kits, what kind of price are you looking at?
Thanks!

oxyboxer
G'day,
I am writing to enquire about the oxyboxer. I have recently had the same old problem happen to my recently purchased 1990 2.1 Caravelle C...split heads and corroded studs. Would it be true to say that the oxyboxer is the wasser boxer converted into an aircooled motor? I am finding some of the descriptions a little confusing. What are the advantages and disadvantages? I have only ever owned aircooled VW's to date so this introduction to water cooled VW's hasn't been pleasant ( see my post on this forum ' Help Me! I'm drowning!' ). What would be the costs of converting a case from Australia...and sending it there and back of course? Happy New Year.
