Are Thing axles unique or are they the same as Type 1?

I am thinking of buying Thing CV's from someone who has them avaliable and the seller is interested in selling the axles also for a few bucks more.

Is there any offroad performance advantage to Thing axles to make buying these worth it? The intended use is in a Class 11 style beetle sedan.

Thing axles are 181 only parts/unique. I think lengthwise, and the width of the splines because the CV is wider than regular Type 1

You could find a junk yard porsche 924 and use the rear arms, axles and cv's from that... The Thing and type 4 CV are the same outer diameter, and the 924 stubs are type 1 size but type 2/4 cv size splines on the axles. The 924 arms are a dirrect bolt onto a bug, from what I've heard and read here.

the CV diam. and bolt pattern are the same as my 1989 cabriolet inner CV the larger of the watercooled inner CV sizes.. I should have tried to slip the joint onna aircooled axle when I did my boot fix..

FYI. I put a T-2/thing CV boot on my cabby as I had a few instock and was ina bind for a boot swap late last night. the inner joints don't need to articulate as much as my baja's does with thing axles.
