is this a viable conversion i'm thinking of putting a type V engine in my bug an was wondering if the trans would be any good. The torsion tube can be cut out as i'm converting to coilovers so i should have the space
i guess i'm justlooking for peoples opinion
any ideas

Automatic or manual transaxle?

What is the beetle to be used for? Street driver? Full out drag racer? Offroad trailblazer?

its a manual trans for a street bug its gonna be my regular driver the engine will be putting out round the standard 112bhp
im just thinking that its matched to the engine an the 5 gears would give me a comfy cruiser

I looked at this when putting a wbx in my buggy. Some (if not all) type v trannies have a side exiting shifter, not out the nose. I couldn't find one that would easily convert, apparently they will but no one round here could do it, it's not bolt on and it means taking the whole tranny to bits. Easier to fit a porker tranny, or re route the shift linkage out side the tunnel - only really viable in a rail.

There may be a frount exit t5 box but I couldn't find one, then it would be like a bus to bug conversion - search the off road forum for info.

wbx is a great motor tho' even with stock pos carb!

Just wondering are the type V boxes stronger than the 2 liter kombi boxes and how much horse power can the auto and manual handle withouth mods ?

Hi

The 5 speeds are a piece of crap, go Porsche or Berg.
