How to insure a Thing in PA?!?

Post by Izzitfast? »

So after getting a job offer, selling my house and buying in PA, I am about to move....time to insure the Thing over there and daily drive it until the weather turns.

Except nobody will cover it - period. Not even my current insurance carrier! They will do parade, show and pleasure policies (but none of these happen in PA near my work)

Can anybody recommend any insurance companies? who know what a Thing is and how to insure it. or my car will be listed in the classifieds.

One of favourite quotes from an insurance agent is"you want your cake and eat it" (to own a Thing and drive it to work in PA). :x They really freaked out when I told them it is raised and had a rollcage, aftermarket exhaust and twin carbs - its modified???

Gieco wrote a policy for us

We have Gieco Liablity on ours. Plus uninsured motorist, but not able to get full coverage. We told if we get it appraised they would write a policy to cover the appraised price. I sure wish I had done that instead of dragging my feet then I would be looking at having to replace speakers and amp that was one year old.

In Louisiana my Thing is currently insured by Allstate as a daily driver. I am changing it to Collector Car because we don't drive it much. I'll save about $1300 per year on the insurance.

Good Luck and keep us posted.
