Warterboxter engine codes, whot are they ?

Could somebody please give me a list of engine codes for the water boxer and whot spec they relate to, so I know I am looking at when in the scrap jards.

Here you go :
There is two type of them 1.9 and 2.1 also late and early (1.9) models.
DF early 1.9 60HP solex carb!
DG early and late both with Pierburg progressive carb 78HP
GW USA spec 1.9 early injection 90HP
DJ 2.1 112HP
MV 2.1 95HP catalytic conv
SS 2.1 92HP """"""""" """"" sweden spec
SR 2.1 87HP """"""""" """"" mobile campers from factory
Early engines has the thermostat in front in the water pump,later has a black plastic thermostat in the no3 cyl position, also have a seconf oil pressure valve in the front of the engine case close to the oil-filter.2.1 engines has a oil cooler in the oil-filter location

Can you tell me what year the wasserboxer started production? Was it as early as '77 by any chance?

Only in vanagons not in the earlier bay window busses.

Thanks. Means I'm limited with what EFI I can use due to emiissions laws here.
