ok , is it posiible to convert a type 4 motor to a type 1 or 3. wht i mean is can i swap in a type 3 style motor into a type 4. it would be a 1776 or 1915 cc engine. this should be stout enough to push a 411/412. the problem is noone in y area will touch a type4. they say they can help a little, but dnt want to diagnose problems and such.
it would be easier if i could swap in something different.
also is the type 3 and 4 auto tranny the same?

Yes, you could ...but In my opinion with the weight of the car....it would be a waste. The type 4 engine was made for this car. There will be issues with engine compartment sealing to solve, intake air boots...and you will need to find a type 3 bell housing for the auto transmission. Otherwise its not too hard. Stick with the type 4 and build it yourself. Thats the easiest route. The stock 1.7 with the factory FI put out 82 HP...had better cooling and better longevity than the type 3 engine or the type 1 engine. Ray

I put a 1600cc fastback motor in a 412 sedan stick shift for my nephew, so he had transportation to school. He used it for 2 years like this and then put an 1800 type 4motor in the car. The performance really sucked with the type 3 motor, as Ray predicted for you

putting a type 1 or type 3 motor in a 411/412 would be taking a step back imho a 2 door might perform ok but a 4 door fasty or a square would probably be a hog.

Nope...the two door fast back weighs very litte less than the four door. All of them are within about 200lbs of each other. Ray
