Well just came in from puting on the new solex carb kit I got from CB. It seems to be a ok kit.The linkage is a littel cheesy but I could see that before I ordered it.But right out of the box as soon as they got fuel it fired right off.No poping spitting smoke hesitation when you give it the gas Ideled at about 750 rpm.Tommorow I will check all the adjustments and the sync. Then give it a test drive.I wanted to tonight but its in a rail and the exhaust is way loud and the neighbors already hate me hehehe).
I just hope it does ok when driving, I was hesitant to try these but they are what my funds would could allow at this time. And it is just a stock 1700.Oh well just thought I would share.

Solex carbs
I have those same carbs on my 1776 Type1 and I am pretty happy with them. I don't really have anything to compare them against like Webbers or Dellortos. But I like them.
The only problem I had was there were not plummed properly to run with the vacuum advance distributor. So I had to go to a 009. Which CB made right by me. They are pretty easy to tune, for dual carbs.
The only other dual carb experience I had was with a set of 40mm Solex Kadrons. They needed a rebuild, and I blew up my motor because of it. After about 15 miles of freeway driving.
I just recently bought a sync tool from CB and now This weekend I will get them synced and tuned finnally. I only have about 1000 miles or less on the motor, but is running hot, for now we will see how things changed after everything is set right.
On the bright side the sell a power upgrade kit for these carbs, Check out there website. I am not sure how much since they don't have prices yet.
Good luck

Now if only that setup worked with type 1 heads.
I synced and tuned my Carbs today. i am pretty happy as i have said before. Just a touch of hesitation under 2000 rpm's. Anything over that is great. I mean I have felt better acceleration before but I am pretty happy with this.
Any one want to donate there Webbers or Dellortos for my testing and comparison purposes. I would love to feel the power of a set of webbers, in my car I swear I will give them back. Hehehehe!!! Or maybe if I like them I will buy them.
