Thanks in advance for the feedback......

What is the best type of paint to use on the underside of the hardtop?
The outside has been recently painted, but the underside was mostly
carpet (pealing off) and was left to be.

I'm going to remove the rest of the carpet and do the painting myself. I
like the look of the "textured stone" light gray color but unsure if it
will cure to the fiberglass. Should I prep it with somethis first? If so
what?

Any suggestions,personal experience or product information is
appreicated.

Being a sailor and Thing owner, myself, I stick with marine-grade supplies wherever possible. They're engineered to stand up to more abuse and harsher conditions than typical automotive counterparts.

Paint-wise, I'd suggest awlgrip (www.awlgrip.com). They have a variety of mix-ins to achieve the look you want. Benefit is that it'll last forever, and is engineered to chemically bond to fibeglass (and strengthen it, as well). Downside is that it's a professional paint, so you'll need a spray setup (or need to know someone with one).

There are several brush on two part epoxy paints you can use on fiberglass without spraying. They are expensive, they do require special primer Awlgrip is one brand. Interlux makes a similar paint. With proper prep you can brush on a paint job that everyone will think is a spray on. Visit your local West Marine store.

Spraying two-part epoxy paint should be left to the pros.
