I have been offered to buy a 1972 Type IV 411, The owner bought it from a local VW shop over 4 years ago, He has had to replace the fuel pump on the engine a couple of times. Tired of messing with it. Wants to unload it, I plan to see it Wed. 09/03/2003 evening. He will unload it for $100.00. He says good body, though you can see some of the putty fill in places, two door and green.

What should I really look for on this to see if I should buy it? Is this a good Year? New to 411.

Yes that was a good year. Look for rust along the right front fender, and the rear wheel arches. there will probably bea little in the pans. thats all fixable. Is it a 4 speed or auto? The 4 speed is desireable...but has its own replacement headaches (worth it my opinion)..but the auto is nice when cared for and adjusted properly. The fuel pumps rarely went out on these. He has other problems. Ususally crap in the tank....or faulty fuel pressure reg....or bad connections. You shoul get 200K miles from one. Usually water in the gas...and infrequent driving will rust the roller cells. Thats easy to prevent. Get it! Ray

Going tonight!!

Thanks for the heads up on the likely hood of the fuel pump to be at fault or not. I will post my findings tonight. Will take Digital Camera as well. How do you post images in posts? Must it be in HTML?
