78 Baywindow (No "Hot" Start)
Hello everyone, I haven't been to this site in a while, my project has been on hold. I'm not actually sure if I've posted here before but anyway here's the deal. The situation is this, 2.0 litre with the progressive Weber electric fuel pump (Facet) and no pressure rgulator. That's the way it was set up when I got this bus. The engine will start cold and warms up to a nice idle. If I shut her down and try to restart, no dice. I have installed a fresh coil, and the cap and rotor are ok. New wires. I need to install new points and condenser but I don't really think that's the problem. I'm suspecting excessive fuel pressure, causing Weber to flood. Does anyone know how much fuel pressure these Facet pumps deliver and if they should be regulated? Any advice or potential solutions will be greatly appreciated.

I`ve had the same problem with a Weber progressive and Facet pump on a 77 bay. I see lots of facets being used without a regulater and without a problem. I had the Weber on the car about a year(bought it new) before this began so I have a difficult time thinking its fuel pressure. But still it makes sense that it is. I`d try a regulator to see if the problem goes away. Can you borrow a regulator ar another carb to test with? Can you get a fuel pressure gauge to see what pressure is? It should be about 2 1/2lbs. Good luck. Bob Ingman

Fuel Pressure?
Hey there Bob. Thanks for the response and feedback. I'm going to buy a regulator and set it at the pressure you referred to. I just hope I can find one here in town, I don't want to have to wait and see if that is the remedy. I'll post any notable progress.

The holley webber proggressive is notorious for a sinking float. Many were a dark almost black plastic material. It was porus to some extent. If the engine...and the float are warm....by the time you get it out to weigh it...much of the gas will have been dry. Its hard to diagnose. It doesn't actually sink like hollow floats. It just exerts less pressure on the valve than it should. You shoul be able to either see it at idle or immediately after shutdown....flooding over from the bowl vent. If the carb is not brand new...replace the float. If it is brand new....check the height setting on the float. Ray
