Steering column question

Post by mstatedog »

Not having my thing at my house yet.....I can't compare parts to my 74 bug. Is the steering column exactly the same as a 74 bug? Is the steering column of a 73 thing the same as a 73 bug?

Dog the steering column diameter of the 73 Thing is same as bug through 79. The column diameter of the 74 Thing is different from the bug. Hope that is what you were wanting to know. Good luck. Bob Ingman

Can I just find a complete steering column from a 73 or 74 bug and put it in my thing....my column is missing the ignition switch and sounds like its full of sand when you turn it....

Dog that link works for me. I just rechecked it.
Here is another link that shows a breakdown in individual steering column components. Only a few are 181 specific. Its complicated by the fact that 73 and 74 Things were delivered with different steering columns(or at least different center shafts).
