The sixth listing on type4.org will be "traded" for $500 credit to the state of California and "disappeared" for "smog" reasons. Ed, a nice fellow, has tried to bring it back, but is frustrated by a oil issue over the heat exchanger, which makes it smoke. Like many of us in SF, places to work on automobiles are at a premium. Garages to work in would cost what most folks spend in rent to live in the rest of the US. Sooo, need a 412 wagon? Please save a VW!! Ok, it's not perfect, but it is California! Say what you will about our "Recall", our cars rock. LOOK MA NO RUST. Sooo, heat--- dash splits some sun stains and ok, he hasn't washed it in a year. Type4.org

So you have either a leaking valve cover, pushrod tube or a head gasket. All are easily in reach of the skills of the home mechanic. All can be replaced for about $20 in parts. Have Ed log on and we will walk him through it. Ray

HELLO ALL THERE!

I HAVE BOUGHT A 1969 411 AND THE CLUTCH IS VERY BAD.
I REMOVE THE ENGINE AND FOUND THAT THE FLYWHEEL IS IN VERY SORRY CONDITION.I HAVE IT RESURFACED BUT NOT A GOOD RESULT.
I WOULD LIKE TO BUY ONE 200MM IN GOOD CONDITION.
THERE IS ONLY 2 411S IN THE WHOLE COUNTRY SO SPARE PARTS ARE REALLY OUR WORST NIGHTMARE.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP,

JORGE

How dose one differentiate a 411 fly wheel, I may have one you can use?

I bought a 1.7 at at a swap meet for the heads and it may of come of a 411?

I do have a cluch disk (but nit a pressure plate that someone gave me) if you need that.

The 200mm clutch is a 69-70 European only size. But a 210 or215 will swap right in. Again where are you? Four speed 411/412 are quite rare inthe USA.
The 210 and 215 flywheels are the same as a bus 1.7 and 1.8. But the clutch disc is totally different on a 411/412. Its unique to this vehicle. Smaller spline. A bus pressure plate will work fine, but an actual 411/412 pressure plate would be better (havn't seen them in years) They had higher clamping pressure than the bus 1.7. Ray

Ray one of the motors I picked up has an EA case, any way I can tell if it was of a 411-412 or a 72-74 914? I just looked at it but I dont know what I did with flywheel, probably out in the shed some where :D

Someone did give me a cluch disk because the splines are definatly smaller but it did not come with this engine.

The EA engines were identical down to the last part # on the 411/412 and 914. Except for some sheet metal differences on the 914....and of course the clutch disc. The flywheel and PP were the same. Ray
