Jake,

I too am in the process of building a 78*94 motor as well - 96 pistons are prohibitively in OZ. One question, is it the use of the stock pistons or stock rods that are the primary cause of the clearance problems. Thanks for your help.

I was going to get it done by Crankshaft Engineering in Brisbane but at $2000+ ($500 per journal for the submerged arc welding) I thought I'd look elsewhere.

At the moment I am thinking of purchasing it from Demello at $350 US + shipping etc. Even with the exchange rate I would still come out on top by a mile.

I am still sussing out the rod options to allow me to use standard pistons without too much clearancing. I am trying to determine whether I can use a golf rod modified for the 24mm pins. Otherwise I might go for the type 1 rods again with modified pins - if it is possible. Apparently Demello can grind journals to whatever size so the rod is really the big decision.

Do you know of any affordable/reliable 78.4mm cranks being sold in OZ?

Jake would using the 2.1 WBX pistons be any easier. Steve
