Post by rollin900 »

First i wanna say long time no see, and second, no my VW THING is not comming along yet since i have ran into financial trouble, but getting back on track. Next, does anyone know where i can get some spinners that will fit the THING lug set? Does everyone know what spinners are?

Thanks,

Good question Nick. When I was teen in the 50s spinners were hubcaps like Olds Fiestas or Dodge Lancers. What they are now and would fit on a Thing is beyond me . Perhaps you can enlighten us. If they are hubcaps I think alll big auto parts stores have them . Good luck. Bob Ingman

spinners are rims that have like another rim inside them. the inner rim spins like a pinwheel even when the car is stopped for a period, and then start spinning as you drive .............if you do a search on google for spinner rims, you can find something to tell you what i mean. they are very expensive though.

There is NO way any of the current manufacturers make spinners for wide 5 VW. The only way to run those would be to put VW to Chevy or Ford adaptors on and then mount your spinners. Good luck getting the 18-20" rims to clear the fenderwells.

While I appreciate fancy wheels as much as the next guy, you might want to think about some more pedestrian rims for your Thing. I say this because you mentioned financial problems and those spinners are far from cheap!

Good luck,

Watch MTV "Cribs" and you'll see a million sets of spinners. Every rap star or actor wannabe has a set on the ubiquitous Escalade. Anyway, my friend has a '74 Thing and he's got a set of plastic spinners on it from AutoZone- people crack up when they see it- it's pretty hilarious. I'm pretty sure he got them at AutoZone or Pep Boys or something like that- plastic hubcaps fit most budgets too. We did lose one though while cruising Pacific Beach this past weekend- cheap clips- things definitely aren't German- probably from Brazil
