I want to tune up my '71 411, and today I was browsing on Rocky Mountain Motorworks. They have a tune-up kit for the '72 bus, which should work on my '71 411, right? I think that they have identical engines.

Not identical, but close enough. The cap and rotor will fit fine...if it is for fuel injected. If you are still using points..do not bother with the Bosch. They having been lousey quality for over a decade. I have found high spots in all of the fixed electrodes due to overheating while fusion welding. Most of the arms are twisted and have the contacts out of parrallel. Check what you buy if you don't believe me. If you have to use points, buy Bluestreak points by standard ignition products. Stiffer spring, larger and better made contacts and arm...and a copper frame for better conducatnce. I would get a better spark plug than the 72 bus used. Try w7DTC, triple electrode...or BP6ET nippondenso triple electrode. Much better. Ray
no longer use points?

I am happy to get rid of the points - I hate gapping them anyway. What do you recommend to replace them?

Either a pertronix or compufire unit. They gralty improve smoothness. I use the pertronix. It has nicer brackets...but they are both essentially the same. They shoul run about $50-60. Worth every penny. Ray
