Howdy....

I'm outfitting our 73 thing right now...

Have a question about the "face/Street" side holes.

What were the small holes on the front of the bumper supposed to hook to?

I've seen some people hook a brush bar to the front of it.... What was the original design for this hole -- towing?

T.

I REMEMBER THE CORKSCREW TAILPIPES .

I REMEMBER THE CORKSCREW TAILPIPES THAT POKED OUT THE
REAR BUMPER HOLES ON NEW THINGS .

PERHAPS THE FRONT ONES WERE
TO GIVE A DESIGN BALANCE TO BOTH ENDS .

The front and rear bumpers of the Thing came with two towing eyes each. These holes in the bumpers with bars going across the holes were intended for attach points for winching out, moving onto a trailer or moving a short distance. The load limit of the tow eyes is 2400 lbs with a maximum towing angle of 20 degrees. These eyes were not intended to be used as attach points for over the road towing. All this is covered on page 26 of the original Thing owner's manual. If you want a jpeg of the page in the Thing manual pmail me. K-mann
