Diamond Plate

Post by nthang »

I would like to know if anyone has used diamond plate as a cheap alternative to 20 gauge sheet metal. I am looking for ways to prove that a car can be made of trashed metal parts and other junk that can be found in the bottom of the bay. Thanks and Good Luck Robert Ingman.

Richard I have never heard of anyone using it in that capacity however I can tell you from personal experience that it the best thing in the world for hiding that ugly gap after a body lift has been installed. What I liked best about using it was that it was 100% free. I was given scrap in the form of discarded Ford truck running boards. I used a mallet to flatten them and cut them to shape. The running boards are also scrap (from a Ford pick up). They were originally used to line the sides of the bed (Top section). I cut them to length and notched for the jack point and bolted them to the bottom of the car when the lift was installed. It was a lot of work but the result was worth it. Best of luck. Bob Ingman

Bob, I have seen the work you did with diamond plate on your Thing (even though I severely missed your posts while you were stranded in the PNW while making the mods) and it is great. I am confused about the earlier post on this thread about "a car can be made of trashed metal parts and other junk that can be found in the bottom of the bay." As usual the post make no sense and seems not to really ask a question but make some reference to something that has nothing to do with working on our Things. When it was signed by you I was confused until I saw who it was really sent by. Then, it made some sort of twisted sense. What a waste of bandwidth the original post seems to be. As you posted earlier no resto is worth anything if the original rust is not first removed, regardless of the bulk of fancy frills that are bolted on... (yawn)...
