transmission mount

Post by steve_1125 »

I need to replace a front transmission mount on my '74 412. Can I use a mount from another VW? Thanks! Steve :P

That would be the mount at the end of the transmission? Yes...look at the front engine mount "knob" on a VW fox or rabbit. That "knob" can have a hole cut all the way through the center and slips over the tube that makes up the metal part of the tranny mount in the 412. Glue it in place. Its nearly the same diameter. Nothing else will be correct. I cast ny own out of urethane. The rubber must just barely touch the walls of the socket. If it compresses in any direction in the hole in the rear axle beam...there will be problems. The adjustment of this position is very specific. The auto trans has less problems...but the 4 speed is very specific. You will damage the main shaft if any tension is put on this mount. Ray
