I want to build up a 2.1 for use in a thing, I am gonna leave it a waterpumper. I need to source some manifolds for dual carbs, and any recommeded cams for use with the hyd lifters. I am just looking for around 130-150 hp, what is the best setup?

A couple of 44 Weber or dell?s, W110 or C35 cam, 1,25:1 rocker, solid lifters, and a descent exhaust
And you will have approx 130hp?s

I vote leave the injection/motor stock, (IOW leave alone), put a set of 1.4 rockers, put Johns (aircooled.net) chip in the Digifant,
bump the timing, and expect ~135-145 HP on an otherwise stock 2.1.
Probably get better milage, and MUCH better drivability.
If you are an electrical type, MegaSquirt, and it's "brother" programmable ignition project might provide a few more HP, and infinately greater tunability, at the expense of having to build/understand EFI and DIS systems.

the intakes from the dual weber 40 kit can have adapters can be machined and welded onto the bottom to fit the square intake of the wasserboxer heads. The best cam is stock, ignition 050 distributor or 009, use petronix for spark. hydraulic lifters, milling oil pump, new water pump always, mechanical pump from type one fits and works well, use a 210 or 215 flywheel from a bay window bus. plug wires from type one or early 1.9 wasserboxer, stock spark plugs, block off oil fill and use Baja oil fill for type 1. use the vanagon radiator, trust me, use the vanagon radiator it has the correct capacity and pull fan with 170 degree switch.
look at pictures of mine at
www.thesamba.com search gallery under wasserboxer.

If you're running an 091 transmission, the Vanagons 228 will work fine, otherwise what Mr. Man said.
(A 091 is highly suggested in a baja... esp one with >2x stock HP.)

also remember to fit a needlebearing in the flywheel to support the trannys axle when using type 1 / thing tranny.
Yes the WBX crank has it already , but the main axle from the type 1 tranny won't reach it
