Ray part # CV Type 4 and Thing compadibility ?

Post by alsehendo »

VW part no. 211 501 331B is this the part # for type 4 CV.

Is this also used in thing? see below?

VW part no. 113 501 331D
Bug and Bus CV joints don't have the same ability to operate at as severe a drive angle as the type 4 joint used in the type 181. Thus will operate up to an angle of approximately 21 degrees, versus 17 degrees for the Bus joint. However, as a temporary fix, the Bus joint (VW part no. 211 501 331B) can be made to work.
The type 4 and 181 CV joint can be fitted to a Beetle transmission. Just use the transmission flange from the original on the new transmission. It's only this flange that is different on the trans.
Is this what I want below for my new Thing Ray?

I beleive they are actually listing an inner and outer CV boot kit. The drive flange...or the metal part that fits the type 4, 4 speed is a flange with seal area. I has a splined bore and slips onto the splined stub coming from the differential. It uses a snap ring. The automatic...uses an actual flange and stub shaft that inserts into the case and is either locked (in some years) with a through bolt, or with a ring flange. I don't think either...though the right flange size...will fit a 181. Ray
