T5 heads...

Post by MASSIVE TYPE IV »

Looks like with some slight mods my new TIV heads(with TI exhaust ports) will be a direct bolt on to a T5.

They will allow up to a 108mm cylinder size, and have healthy finnage..

More when I make sure that it will work!

Sure thing....

I id d an oxy a few months back and saw the challenges.. When I was doing some measurements noticed that it will only be a few steps to offset the bolt spacing to make it happen. You'll need TIV rockers and valve covers and my intakes.

Jake,

The Wasser cases have Type I center to center distance between the cylinders.

I know the spacing is Type I... The rockers can be shifted on their bosses to match a TI, easily.

So the valves will shift over easily too? Aprox .250" + the valve seats... and re-core your casting so the ports would correspond...

And the pushrod holes...

And the cylinder spiggot holes Approx .250" per side

And the stud hole pattern.. Approx .250" per side

I'm not saying it can't be done, just won't be easy.

You would basically have to make a re-designed head, based on your casting... I would try to get a bunch sold before they were made.

I think it is still easier to move the stud holes in the case, and use one of the many good / Inexpensive designs available for the Type I (average application Thru 230 H.P. normally asperated).

Extreme Drag Racers will still need the Autocraft heads / Scat split ports....

You can modify certain aftermarket heads to run that big of bore / Type IV stud spacing... It's alot of work, But I do these $$$ / still way cheaper than producing a head.

Good Luck, Jake :D

Dont take a step back and put t-4 parts on a t-1 motor, only a crazy man would even think of doing that!!! Rocky

Jake, i like your attitude!
You see possibilities where others see problems.
Way to go!

Are you going to saw a bit out of the head and reweld?

With the right skills it should be possible...

Don't need to... Plenty to work with to shift either way.

Jake . Yes with hours & hours of work you can do amost anything, but is it worth anything when you are done. You should have lots of other t-4 projects to do with out tring to adapt a t-4 head to a t-1 engine. Why dont you show us ALL one of your t-4 castings. I would like to see that!!! Thanks Rocky

Casting is not done yet......

No where near it.

I was just trying to share the fact that the head could be made to work.

I guess you are right, the nmachine work to make the casting compatible with a T5 engine is less more than changing the bore spacing on a TI head for the job.

It was just something I noticed and thought I would share.

There will be zero pics of this head till it gets fully tested, molds are made and I can sell them.

Atleast a year.

Jake,
Good thinking!

Since all the type 1 aftermarket heads don't cool well enough for street use and I know street engines are your main interest, I trust you that if you make one, it will cool well enough!

The same issues of performance and cooling (street) capacities exist for T1, T4 and T5...
In other words, there really should be a vast market....

Take care,
Walter
