Hehe, I see. You'd be surprised what will fit where, though, have you seen that Golf II with a complete Cadillac Northstar V-8 and Cadillac FWD transaxle?

And they make an adaptor plate (to put the flat 6 in the bus) so that it mates with the VW transmission. I've seen the adaptor plates on ebay a few times.

Go for a turbo-charged 'vair engine or at least one with the 4 carbs.

I have heard the Corvair engines make for a nice convert into a bus. Although my bro in law who is a Corvair fanatic has a vair van, boy compaired to that thing an early bay window bus is a SPEED DEMON. Why put a Corvair engine into a 411/12, wouldnt it just be easier to buy a corvair?

http://www.cwstuning.com/gallery/albums.php is the link to the page with the v8 Golf. CWC says they'll duplicate it on a Golf 2,3,or 4! When it was first finished, it looked 100% stock, even still had the original 13" wheels and 9.4" front rotors....But, yeah, I knew that people had fitted 'em to busses, but if the Porsche six w/fan would fit dimensionally in a 412, that would rock...

OK, let's get back on track here... I'd hate to drop a couple of grand on a Porsche motor and have it not fit...Yeah, right!

I am quite sure it has been done, a Porsche flat six in a 411/412. I remember having read about it in one of those German VW magazines like VWscene or VWspeed. When I ever come across the article I will scan it for you guys (you'll have to learn some German, though).

The 914 came with a 4 or a 6 so I don't see why a 6 wouldn't fit into a type4. The two extra cylinders should fit in the space where the cooling fan is in the back of the engine now. Now if the upright cooling will fit without cutting would be the question.

I believe the corvair engine turns the wrong way, but if I remember correctly you can get a reverse cam to make it work in reverse. Could be wrong, I'm just drawing that info from my terrible memory.

Porsche flat-six in 412 can be done! Here in Norway there are a number of cars with 3.0 carb and fuelinjected engines ! There is a guy that have a 3.3 turbo to ! If you take a complete engine/gearbox from a 911 it will be relatively easy ! I had plans for t-4 2270 cc engine in my 412 wagon, but will go for the 3.0 k-jet 204 hp instead ! I will have to build up the floor 12-15 cm, but the car is going to be a wild sleeeeper ! With the 915 5-speed gearboks, and Porsche 944 brakes its my dram come true !

Cool! You have the Variant (wagon/estate) bodystyle?

Yes,it`s a 73 wagon ! I do have to raise the floor a little, but thats not a big sacrifise ! One of the 412`s (wagon) up here do the 1/8 mile at 8.60 with a fairly original (230 hp carb`d) 3.0, and that`what I vant ! I`m installing a Saab 9000 el-leather seats, and carpets from Audi A6 . This is beginning to look like a sweeeet ride ! :D
