Excuse me...but what is a type V?
I'm a noobie for sure to the wonderful world of VW but I have never heard mention of a type five as far as I knew four was the highest they went. Mathematically speaking that is...

All that, while beeing air cooled? Wouldn't it be better for the engine to keep it watercooled, that is if you don't mind chopping up the body to run lines and install a rad?? Can you gget that same performance if it is watercooled?A type 5 is the biggest badest air cooled motor you can build without going super exotic. You get 4inch + pistons and a strong bottom end all in a type 1 package with the ability to run autocraft heads. This all adds up to a 300HP+ race motor or a 260HP street motor if you want.

Actually you don't have cut cut and modify much for a water boxer motor on say a type 3. They all ready have a big hole in the back of the nose to accomadate a radiator. for a Bug it would be harder tho.VRSICK wrote:All that, while beeing air cooled? If you keep the waterboxer motor watercooled you can not go as big with the pistons as with air cooled. And worse off you can't use Autocrft heads. Which limits your valve and port size considerably. You could how ever watercool the autocraft heads and then use a down sized fan and shroud for the cylinders and have a hybrid water/air cooled motor that would have more stable heat control and be able to tollerate things like turbo boost more effectively. Porsche did this years ago with their road race cars.

910s may not be the best choice for a daily driver I agree. But just about anything can be street driven.
My buddies drives an ex-prostock, tube frame car on the street complete with 3000cc ARPM motor ,Angleflow 52x40 heads etc. The car runs into the low tens on 91 octane and 9.5 to 1 compr. Its driven close to one hundred miles some nights.
