Where is the oil pressure sender on a wasserboxer

Where is the oil pressure sender on a wasserboxer

Howdy Gang,
Could some one tell me where the oil pressure sender on a wasserboxer is? We will be getting our Bentley Manual for it soon but would like to get a oil pressure gauge and need to know the tread size.
On our other VWs we have used a 1/8" npt flex grease gun hose into the block. Is the treads the same size on the wasserboxer?

The stock threads are straight. You could probably use the hose for test purposes. The stock oil pressure sender (for a light) is located in between the #3 & #4 intake pushrod tubes.

On an 88 Vanagon (at least) you have 2, a high pressure unit above the pump, and a low pressure unit on the lifter galley, same as a bug.

IIRC, the high pressure one is on the mains, at the output of the pump where badbugtwo has his sender in the pics. The std issue bug one is on the side, between the pushrods.

The low pressure unit is normally closed. The high pressure unit is normally OPEN, and BOTH must be logically OK or your oil pressure light/buzzer will freak. (dynamic oil pressure)
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Howdy,
We just got our Bentley manual for the syncro and see that they show two oil pressure senders as pile drive said.
I haven't removed the #3 and 4 tin to look at the oil pressure in there
and was wondering which sender to tee off for a oil pressure gauge
any body using a oil pressure gauge on their Vanagon wasserboxer out there?

The one on the side is the easiest to get at, the one on the case end is close to belts etc.

Just copy BadBugTwos example.

They should read the same pressure, it's hydraulics, and I don't THINK there is a restrictor.

I have been told, by a major Vanagon rebuilder that the upper oil oil port near the pump will; give ahigher pressure reading, as it is right off the pump oultet. the lower port, near the pushrods is closer to the "end" of the oil circut", and hence will have a lower pressure. I installed mine on the port at the pushrods, and was concerned at 28 psi pressure at freeway speeds using 15W-50 oil. i was told not too worry, that the pressure was likely much higher at the other port. As pointed out by others, the other port is in a tight spot on a stock vanagon.

Can someone on this list please confirm the above, that is that the push rod area port is expected to have a lower pressure. i do not have an oil circulation diagram for the Vanagon motor, hence would like confermation.
