" all of the beetles brought into the us were "deluxe" models (even if they are refered to as "Standards" nowadays in US). they all had chrome and all that.. there is a definite difference between what was called a "standard" beetle here and what the actual standard model was.. it was very basic transportation and in many ways did not meet american dot regulations. all of the cars systems were cheap to produce and didn't have many of the progressive refinements found on the deluxe model. the standards were imported to canada for the duration of their production.. many of them mad 1100 and 1200 cc single port engines, the three spoke steering wheel is a halmark of the standard model. where it ceased production in '49 for most models the standard retained the 3 spoke until the mid 60's. another neat thing is that they usually have absolutely no chrome... no body holes for it, no chrome on the bumpers or hubcaps either... it was the ultimate cheapie!"
It is going to go thru a body off total restoration. ( floors and heaterchannels probably needs to be changed). I have not yet brought it home for closer inspection. The interiour will just get some minor fixing and cleaning.
