I have a new top and cannot seem to fold it down without putting scratches on the rear window. My VW Thing owners manual has vague instructions that conflict with the Thing Shop video. Neither seems to prevent marks from the folding and rolling. Anyone got any suggestions?? I also just finsihed putting in a Thing Shop roll bar....perfect! A nice addition and worth the $$$$$. Bill

Do you guys all use the roll up version or do most people around here just push it back and strap it down?
Ours doesn't scratch when just being folded back (no roll)... not sure if I'm damaging anythng.

are you putting a piece of fabric on the window before you roll up the top?

I have not been putting anything in the folds. Perhaps a towel would work. But I still don't feel like I am getting it right. Maybe I expect too much. My old MGB top was a breeze compared to the Thing top. bill

I just fold the whole thing down like a convertible top, unstrapping all the little grommets is for show cars. The window folds down onto the engine shelf, but most of the scratches are on the outside surface where the window rubs on itself (and it's usually dirty) not from the metal surface. I lost several towels trying to keep it from rubbing....

if you have just spent big coin on a new top (i have), then removing the grommets, pulling the cloth backwards and rolling the top is a good idea. i don't mind taking the extra time.
