I'm starting to restore my wifes 73 thing. I notice that the spare tire is a contental tube style tire, and has a great off road tread on it.
Does anyone know any company that makes a tire with this style of tread? I've check my local tire shops and can't come up with anything.
Thanks Gus

What were the actual size of the stock tire?
I think they were 185 r 14 but I don't know what the aspect ratio was-I think it was 185/85/14?

Acording to our Facts and Figures Thread the Thing was delivered with an 185 SR 14 tire but manufacturer was not specified. Look on www.tirerack.com for various patterns. Warning the 14" tire is scarce with an off-road pattern. The Kuhmo Venture and BFG Radial TAs are a couple of the few offered. Good luck. Bob Ingman

Howdy....
I couldn't find anything that was met the criteria... looked good, value buy and drove well.
We ended up storing the rims and tires and moving to other rims...
Quite the difference in looks with bulbous tires tucked under a thing instead of little tires.
Adaptors with/without other rims are probably easier and more affordable.
Chevy made some wide 14s with cool mags ... I've also seen some very nice looking Jeep rims connected via adaptors.
