Air-cooler Wasser -vs- T1

Post by KDF Lad »

What would convince me to go one way or the other when I get my next engine built?

I was intending to go:
either AS41 or al case
044
48IDF or IDA
84 x 94
daily driver

Thanks in advance

Hmmm... I don't have one, and may never build one, but based on what I see and having worked on a wasser or 2, lots of T1s and many T4s:

I would NOT hesitate to build one, esp if building a "big HP" motor.

(OTOH I would likely just stay WBX, go 97x80 or so and just run a radiator, and seriously rework the wasser heads, they flow great I understand)

T5s need more machine work, but when all is said and done, you cant beat VW factory quaility, T4 cenetr main, T4 crank attachment, and the "final" cost between one of these vs a sand cast POS case is likely insignificant.

The only downside I see is you can't just slap one on your VISA and have it arrive at your door in 3-5 days.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
