oil gauges
Would like to have electric oil pressure and oil temp gauges on my 73. found same at MidAmerica...VDO (which suits me fine) at $30 each gauge, $30 for oil sender and $13 for oil temp sender. Oil temp sender screws into the oil drain hole plate, Is that OK? If I don't offroad at all? I really don't want to drill out a gallery hole. I simply want to watch my engine. Am I going in the right direction???? Price??? thanks Bill

I buy my gauges from http://www.egauges.com/
They sell VDO/ Autometer and even better brands.
This is part of Dons Sport Vehicle Sales. If you call talk to Don or Paul as they both have a vast storhouse of knowledge concerning gauges and more.
You can also call them 1-800-303-6211 - Monday-Friday: 9am-5:00pm ET - Saturday: 9am-2pm ET.
Their prices are lower that Mid America and they know about and use the products they sell.
On the topic of temperature sender.. I would never use a a drain plug sender. Irt has too many bad issues. It will be removed each time the oil is changes. This will lead to early failure. It is housed at the lowest point of the engine and the wire is prone to getting knocked off this also leads to low temperature readings as heat rises adn the oil at the bottom of the engine is therefore cooler that in other locations... Some folks use a oil sender that replaces the pressure relief valve screw. This sender also has draw backs. Being at teh bottom of the engone again you wioo get low readings and also you will only see a change in oil temperature each time the pressrue relief vale opens giving fresh oil to the sender.l It does have a better wiring set up and it shays put fgor the life of the sender. My two favorite senders are The 9no longer available0 oil dipstick sender. This wsender gives accureate readings, is easy to install. Requires no parts to be removes (except your old di stick. The other choice is to put a sender in a "T" fitting just prior to your oil filter. Ths is the best location, gives the most accurate rading and has nice safe protected wiring. The drawback of this sender is that you must have an external oil filter to use this scenario. K-mann
