what size tap?

what size tap do I need to chase or cut new threads in the end of a tie-rod on a ball joint front end??

M14x1.5, same as a 68 and up lug bolt.

thanks, thats the tap I bought...just seemed to cut a little deeper than the original threads.

It only seems to cut deeper because you are removing the oxides that have formed and built up. What are you doing about chasing the left hand thread side. I ask because I have an original Long 181 tie rod that needs the left hand thread chased adn know that a left hand threaded tap is pricey.. K-mann

Actually I just need to do one side. I have narrowed a beam for my bug and will be cutting some length off each tie-rod....so I don't need the other one. When I run the tap through, it does take a hair of fresh metal off...its not cross-threading. This is why I initially asked the question about the tap size.

I bought RH and LH taps from MSC. That is Manhatten Supply Company. I think they have a website, I use their catalog, which is about the size of at least two phone books. There are other supply houses out there, I have had good luck with MSC.
