confused again

Well before I get into it just thought i'd introduce myself, never posted in any of the shoptalkforums before, just been a visitor until now. Some great information being shared by even greater people.
Okay well in light of the post "Type 4 quarter mile times?" i've once again been questioning my thoughts. I'm working on a '70 karmann ghia, I guess it would be called a resto-custom. In any case I thought I finnaly set in my plans for using a type 4 engine in my ghia. My question is if it is worth it? I want to have a pretty powerfull engine for the ghia, but I dont want to go to far as to be worried about taking it out on long trips or just it being able to get me around everyday. How much horsepower should I be looking for to get the ghia into some respectable times?
