I read a few threads back about the importantance of utilizing the heat shields. Well neither of my 412 have one. I also remember someone saying they could be easily fabricated.

can someone provide a little more insight, picture, where to mount. I've got the Clymers (spelling?) 411-412 manual, but have not seen anything relating to the heat shield. Or provide another reference. thanks.

DB, I may have to call on you one day to assist getting the 412 road worthy  Time is definitley an enemy right now. Less than 20 days !

Our local club, VVA, is planning a trek to Moody, taking the back-roads.

Very cool. I've got to get in a couple of new heater hoses, go by VW dealership for some of those mounting bolts, and will be ready to rock. What day could you make to Wetumpka?
I'm fairly flexable at work if it needed to be during the week.
I've got my kido's next weekend, and then have mil duty 21-22 Aug. The military duty is what has killed my timetable. My kids are old enough to partly fend for themselves.

Excellent :D . If a week day is ok with you, any day next week (16th - 20th)fits my schedule. That will give me time to get the final parts I need. ha, final parts, like that's going to happen.
I've got a strip map to the house on PowerPoint, you got that program? If not, I can convert to .jpg

Could I interest you in selling one of your extra heat shields? I could use a spare in good condition. (One of my 412s has the shield pretty much rusted away.)
