Someone had mentioned that STF needs to get a Wiring Schematic & Issues started?
It would help those of us with the problems, as myself i am going with the buggy harness to keep it simple.
Any help on someone that has installed one in a Thing would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Peter

Peter, yes we are hoping to introduce a new Elect/Wiring Forum here on STF in the near future. It seems that everyone that has a VW has wiring issues and some seem more inclined than others to tackle the challenge.
I personally fall into catagory one (those in need) and can assist only in the most basic of issues. On the other hand our other moderator here Kubelmann is quite adapt in resolving such problems.
If anyone else sees a need for such a forum please chime in with any suggestions that might help. Thanks. Bob Ingman

If anyone can tell what vehicle this goes to i would really appreciate the info. The harness has a schematic, but the info of which vehicle is gone of the corner,But i do know that it still has the brazil name on it and thats it.
Thanks Peter

I thought we had a leg up on getting a wiring forum going. I would contribute and participate. Although I am a comoderator on the Thing forum I do not know how to contact the site owner to push for the formation of this new forum. We were able to create the trans forum and it has been very helpful for many folks. K-mann

I studied these for a while but can't come to any definite conclusion. A close-up of the wires that come out of the main harness at front, center, and rear would help.

I have some evidence. Two wires next to the big red = generator. Separate back up light circuit is a 67/68 or newer clue. Measure the complete length of the harness adn that is another clue. Knowing the wrie colors is the best clue to dial in which bug/T-3/ghia/vert it might come from... I want a wiring forum. K-mann

I have been trying to get OK from a retailer to put info from the Black Thing manual on line but they won't answer my e-mails. What do you you all think would this be ethical, they charge over $80 for this book, so it may hurt their bottom line and is probably why they keep quiet.
I don't know retailers source but assume it is documentation supplied to them and others, especially VW dealers and technicians. There are intricate colored wiring diagrams in this manual. Most pages say printed in Germany.
Please comment if you think it would be appropriate and helpfully to put some of this stuff on line. I would give free access to it but might limit # concurrent logins if nessary since I can't have it taking up all my DSL bandwidth.
I'll drop the idea if I do not here from anyone here. I wish this retailer would just say no we don't want you to do this but they just keep quiet. I actually was going to contact VW America's legal department but have been holding of to get the opinion of the retailer.
I tend to believe that republishing stuff in the public domain is not unethical and I now it is not illegal--regardless of added value by commercial vendors. I am however deffinatly know their is difference of opinion on this idea. E-mail me and let me know what you think should I put up documents from this book on line.
