WHAT IS A TYPE 183

Bob the 183 is the Iltis a more modern version of the 181.

Bob is correct. We have two type 183s in our RoMTOC Rocky Mountain Thing Owner's Club. It is a 4x4 big brother to the Thing. The type 182 is a right hand driver "Trekker" Herr-K/K-Panz

I forgot to include the firm fact that 183 is an Iltis. The history of this vehicle is much like our beloved Thing. A number of Military and other government agency bought this Thing big uncle. It used to be a pain to get them into the Us like the Unimog. But now there is even a guy in Northern Colorado that imports them (in good running condition) and offers them for sale for around $3-5K..... hk/kp
