Desperately Seeking Windshield

Hello All. Nice to see such a great Forum dedicated to my favorite car, the Type 4. Currently I am on my 5th and 6th Type 4s. I am the proud owner of a '74 412 with 7000 original miles. Previous owner over-reved the engine and the car sat in his barn from 1976 on while he travelled with the military. I hauled the car to Denver from Indiana last year and am busy rebuilding the engine and doing everything that needs to be done on a car that has not moved in 28 years.
Anyway, the windshield is smashed. I am having NO luck finding a new one. Can anyone help me? New or used, at this point I do not care.
Thanks much!

You might want to try your local VW salvage yards there in Denver, It is VERY costly to ship windshields.

Amen to that. These windshields are out there... somewhere. Here's another option for you. When I broke the windshield in my 914, I couldn't find one anywhere. I called several glass places and no one wanted to touch it. Finally, one place said they'd call me back. About 2 hours later, they called me back and said they found one in Missouri (I'm in VA mind you) and it could be here in 1 week and it would cost me $120, and that included installation

. Needless to say, I was a happy camper. You might want to call around and see if any local glass places can turn anything up for you. I don't cost nothing to ask

Check out the phone number I posted above for Parts Place for All Volkswagens, located in Auburn Hills, MI. They list in their catalog that they have windshields for type 4, but they're costly I think, like $260+shipping. Other than that, like the guys said, look locally in junkyards. You'll want to check out your out of the way little crappy yards in the middle of nowhere that leave stuff sitting around for years. Most of these windshields are cracked and foggy around the edges (delaminating) it seems, unfortunately. I think I remember reading in another post somewhere that somebody in Europe was claiming that they had a source for new reproduction windshields, but I was skeptical.

Sounds like the story of my life.
I have two steps forward, one step backwards tattooed on my forehead.
