Where is the brain?

Post by Longbeach412 »

On a 74 412, where exactly is the brain? I just got the car, no manuals yet and trying to troubleshoot nonstarting. Ray says its under the right pass arm rest, do I have to remove the lower side panel to get to it or the one with the ash tray? Also how can I remove the back seat cushion, there seems to be some wiring under there on the left side that i might want to check as well. Any leads will be appreciated.

My ECU is attached to the black cover in the engine bay on the left side and has two screws on top and pivots down and out. It is mounted to back of that cover. Some I think are under the seat. The rear seat bottom comes out by pushing down and back on the bottom edges. The seat back is attached with bolts to the body. Also there is a very important black cover under the rear seat that is where you pull the main shaft when removing the engine. That cover lets you get access to that.

The ones in the wagon are under the right hand back seat arm rest. More precisely..they are behind the panel that the arm rest is attached to. Ray
