DRAFT Mission Statement

Post by 67 T1 »

OK, first try. This needs input, refinement, expansion, and reviewed by as many folks as possible. If it totally misses the mark, let me know and I'll re-do the whole thing. This statement is a 'working document', lets change as needed.

411-412 Mission Statement:
The 411-412 Registry is a collective of Air-Cooled Volkswagen enthusiast (and in most cases current or previous owners of a 411-412) who have organized themselves to share knowledge and perpetuate the ?forgotten? ACVW, the Type IV. Our goal is to establish connectivity with other Type IV owners and empower them with information, knowledge, ability, and a sense of camaraderie. In our eyes the Type IV is not the ?forgotten orphan? of Volkswagen, it is the pinnacle of technological advancements of ACVW. This site serves as a homebase for Type IV owners to share their experiences, seek solutions, and offer help where they can.

EDIT: Per below post, 'forgotten orpahan' vice 'bastard step-child'

Instead of ?bastard step-child?, let's use something like 'forgotten orphan'.
The word bastard may offend some people. I'll continue to read it, mull it over in my mind and give some more feedback.

T,
I agree, didn't think about that. Step-child may offend as well. Should have thought about that as my two sons are actually 'step-children'. Of course, I still haven't acknowledged that in my own mind.

I wrote that quickly yesterday afternoon,...work has been a ball-buster lately.

I like!

I would have to agree about the "bastard" thing though. Although that's exactly how most people see it, we wouldn't want to offend anybody.

I got reprimanded about 6 months ago for using the "f" word as we have a new female employee. Which I am very prone to do, as in 'get the "f" out', that stupid "f'er", you got to be "f'ing" kidding me. So, after the reprimand, I started saying 'flock'. It's not as versitile as the real 'f' word, but she can't say a dang thing about it.

See you flockers later.

A quick search on Google came up with these:

http://www.vvwca.com/home/mission/
http://www.classiccarclub.org/mission_statement.htm
http://www.nesea.org/greencarclub/mission.html
http://www.packardsinternational.com/mission.htm
http://zhome.com/IZCC/AboutIZCC.html
http://www.scca.org/Educate/Index.asp?I ... =100%7C010&~=

I just want to make sure that our club is taken seriously by us
and any future members. They need to know that we mean
business about bringing the Type 4 owners and enthusiasts
together and keeping these unique autos on the road and to
assist on going restoration projects.

I like a lot of the ideas in the first page, Vintage vw.! Just needs to be more specific to the 411/412 vw's and the feel of the people who try to save them and there inharent uniqueness. It's a passing on of that knowledge which makes the restoration and preservation important and the club/registry the recording of that knowledge! Everything that is on the web and in books and personal knowledge is the basis of that along with the actual vehicles. It's the factor of the total production that isnt lost to time! When will they become no longer a factual item and just a memory of that time? We are all trying to save that moment and knowledge! And we like the way the motor sings at high revs and the ride and performance of the 411/412 series..... LOl! Bill

p.s. thanks for all the great work on the registry/club. It is moving in great directions!

T,
I printed the mission statements (MS) you had posted for review and refinement of our MS. Thanks for posting ref material.

The MS of VVWCA, while good, sounded too much of lawyer lingo. In that, and such, as it pertained to the afore mentioned, while the true intent as otherwise stated, shall therefore be lost in the text, that one of normal intelligence cannot with ease understand the intent of such statement.

I totally agree with your intent of professionalism to the MS and subsequent material. I'll work on this more today.

I'm coming a little late to this discussion, if I understand right and these are the opening volleys in a real-to-god 411/412 club I'm all for it.

Back from when I was active and knew the VVWCA top brass (early 90s) I know that a lot of those docs were written by lawyers. I mean, hair-trigger litigation existed already...

If/when it comes to setting up related internet presences (well, a website, mostly) let me know. I'll be happy to help develop a community-style site if someone does design - the only thing at which I really s%$k. I'm developing web-based content management systems by trade, btw.

Good to hear from you Jens. You probably don't remember me, but you were actually my first point of contact concerning Type 4s. I still hit your site about every other day. In fact, I bought my two 412s from your buy/sell page.
