No Reserve. Love the hoods/headlights of the 411's

Nope...the deck lid is toast. Look closer right in the center. Also...it has lots of rust in the back pillar areas peeking through. Its also been hot an re-fendered in the left rear. See the bent inner body and loose weather stripping? Still for $100...it looks good. Ray

Why do they rust on the pillar near the bottom corner? I can't see any obvious reasons. At least two of my cars have this... :(

Oh yeah, tell me where and what it is dammit  , I can't access ebay at work...

More like x-ray, super human, bionic man eyes. Do your eyes make that beeping sound when you zoom in Ray? I always though it cool when bionic man zoomed in, the beeping sound. Seems there was a little cross-hair as well. beep beep beep....beep beep beep.

Looking for rust comes from knowing where these cars rust. The four doors have their own problems. The body has lots of foam in it. The entire body under the rear fender all the way down to the sills under the back door is a notorious rust point. The rear main pillar on both sides of the back window has foam in it near the bottom...again rustable. When the paint gets old and flat...it does not shed water. The rust lays in the gutter and rusts pinholes through to the inside....this is on all models.

Theright hand front frendeer rust line comes from the fuel filler boot rotting away...and tank overfillin causes the sealer to leak at the fender rear edge. Then water gets in...and causes a rust line. Also notice the rust at the top edge of the right front turn signal. Thats common when cars sit foreever and the undercoating has been worn away.
Not saying this is a bad deal. Also...its rare to see rust on the "pan" of a type 4....but...since its undercoated....it can be there and you will not see it. If the winshield gaskets leak water into the floor boards under the carpet...you have rust. it generally starts around the edges of the tarboards. Ray

Ray,

The pan on my '72 411 4 doors apprears to galvanized. Was this universal through out the Type 4 line or was it only done on a limited number of models for a limited number of year? It does have bad rust-through beneath the battery, but otherwise shows no age.

Ah....I would bet you found one wherin someone opted for the optional factory rustproofing. I have not seen one like that. Then again...I have not looked for galvanizing either. It may simply be cold galvanizing sprayed on. Still good stuff. You should see cans of that. A quart weighs like 10 lbs!. Nothin but zinc and solvent/acid. Ray

Sounds like the guy is pretty honest at thevery least. The tranny must be re-sealed before driving it another 10 feet...or else its shot. The engine....is always suspect if someone rebuilt it that you don't know...but ...heck...it coukld be great. The one good thing is that its complete. Get it cheap...strip the paint now...while it has metal....and replace all of the suspension bushings. It will be a good deal. Ray
