exhaust spewing water

Post by DingoDog »

'84 Wasser Westy :

After head gasket and head replacement, tried to crank it up and all i got was a bunch of coolant/water coming out steadily from the place where the four exhaust pipes meet. How exactly is the coolant getting sucked into the exhaust and how do i address this problem ??

any suggestions and advice welcome...

thanks

Ok basically the #3 combustion chamber is filling up with water/coolant. #4 is dry. What would be the cause of this ??

Pull the head back off the O-ring isprobably pinched or cut.

by 'o-ring'...do you mean the circular metal gasket/shim ?? It is not pinched, since i used a bit of grease to make it stick and when i pulled the head off, it was still in place...perhaps i need a thicker one ??

On the cylinder you have two orings one on the bottom of the cylinder & one at the top, where the head slides over the cylinder. its sounding like the top oring is bad(cut or pinched) I use w-d40 around the cylinder top & on the head, use a Q-tip to spread the wd40 to lube the oring so it will not be damaged then I slip the head down over the cylinder. Hope this helps. Rocky

Yeah that does make sense, Rocky. I will have to inspect the o-rings again to see if there are cuts...

I also noticed that when looking down on the cylinders (with head off),..#4 sticks very slightly firther out than #3....would this cause #3 to suck all that water once the head is torqued on...or would the o-rings compensate for that ??

Dingo...
Any progress?

I installed Oil Pressure and oil temp gauges...
Looks like my engine is really tired, or the gauges are wrong.
Damnit!
