From PM from Albert: (paraphrased)
1) Go to a scrap yard and find an Audi car, 1980 - 1990, with 1984 being the preferred year. 1985 - 1990 chrome is ok, but a bit shorter than needed. The chrome from the 1984 Audi is good for the front fenders or the doors. This chrome may have a slight bend in the middle, but sandwich it between two blocks of wood, apply pressure to straighten the chrome.
2) for the end, cut the chrome with a hack saw (steel cutting blade) 1/4 in each side of the molding only, this give you a tree section at the end, then cut two outside sections in 20 degree angles. Use pliers to bend the top section over. Then take a soldering iron (use plumber solder, soft solder with an acid core) (this is the only solder that will stick to stainless) and solder the end piece filling up the end. Use green pad to sand the solder that seeps through.
3) If you prefer to use New chrome, go to VW / Audi dealer and order parts 443-853-711 or 443-853-713 (around $30 USD). Chrome clips can be ordered as well, 342-1044 for small and 803-853-139c for bottom clip.
4) Fender beading can also be obtained (I'm guessing for the Audi, and then modified to fit the 412)
Thanks for the info Albert.

Thanks Albert. I just bought 60 of those chrome clips. They are by the way....the same as the chrome clips of watercooled VW's up through about 91.
Since we are swapping part #'s...right this one down: 020-311-113 EC
If you have a 1.8 Liter with L-jet...or are using a 2.0 Bus TB (whcih I highly reccommned for a 1.7) or 1.8L bus TB . You will notice that it has throttle saft seals....that have been unobtanium for me. Hee hee...they are the same seal as the above part #. That seal...is the clutch release bearing rob seal for any number of VW rabbit, golf jetta, sirrocco, cabrio. They are about $1.50 and are the exact seal. Ray

wen you use acide core solder on the chrome or stanles it is very important to wash wich the wather or your chrome came black, vw put that on the gravel gard pin (gravel gard on rear fenders)for the fender beading the information came soon plus for to restore the door window chanel felt i have some adress in uk for that ,PS for solder the best kind is 50/50 (étain and plomb) not 35%allum. 65% something

PM from Albert on Fender Beading (paraphrased)
Get some fender beading for a super Beetle, understanding that it's not going to fit the 412 exactly. Go to a hardware store (Home Depot, etc), and get a rubber repair kit (as in what you'd buy to fix the rubber seal under your garage door) for a garage door. Make sure it is 100% rubber, not plastic, PVC, etc. These kits come in 8, 10, or 12 ft long and is 4" wide and has a 'T' at both ends to slide into the door gasket frame.
Cut this gasket down the middle to make two pieces, this should leave you with two pieces that are 2" by 1/2" on the top and 1/8" deep. Paint this with car paint, let dry. Optional: you can test the durability of the paint by placing in an oven at 150 degrees to see if paint cracks.
For the fender beading, to make it fit the 90 degree corners, you'll have to cut the inner portion then heat the outter portion with a soldering gun for flexability. Mold the plastic to the required curve/corner while hot. You'll have to drill/punch new holes in the beading where the fender bolts are located. The beading should be large enough to go from the bumper to the door.
Merci beaucoup mon ami (your English is much better than my French Albert)

oh thinks , for to help some 412 fans the most important is not ,,,french or inglish it is the information, for me i love my 412 and i need to keep long therm , for the beading , i do that last 6 monts , and he stay good ,same look original , the 412 fenders have square angle and this gasket have square T angle wich alf moon on the top , that give very very nice look ,,,,, thinks for your help ,,,albert PS now i work for to restore 100% fit ,, the felt on the driver door window chrome , n.o.l.a. on vw plus it is spécial for 412 , i know one thing , it is all the time the outside felt is finish , if you use the right side(passanger) inner door felt he fet 100%on the outside drivers side , inside felt never use , ok now you said i have 2 perfect felt on the left side and the right is 50/50 but that is for spare , salutation
