I have had my 73 for just over two years and after many hours and lots of $$, it seems that I am done. The only thing I would like is to build me a new engine ( small...maybe 1776) although what I have is doing OK. Really my Thing is great...but what am I supposed to do now? I guess I'll just drive it, care for it, love it and dust it!! If this is my hobby, so what now??? But boy, I learned a lot! If I can learn how to post pictures, I'll try to get some on here.

Bill I can personally attest to the fact that you have gone through that Thing from end to end. It always seems that just when you feel you are completed something new arises and here we go again so don`t be holding your breath.
The best time to build a new engine is before you need it. Takes all the pressure off. A 1776 can be an excellent choice for a daily driver though there are opponents to everything. I once thought it was a poor choice but my cousin showed me that I was not well informed.
He has a bay window single cab completely restored to as new condition. His engine builder assembled what is actually a very simple combination but it does work ever so well. Very smooth driving yet will pull steep hills in fourth gear.
To me engine building has always been the single most enjoyable aspect of the VW hobby. Its done standing up and in clean surroundings. You can`t always say that about a lot of the work we do on these cars.
Go to the gallery thread and look for the sticky there on how to post photos here. We would like to see some of what you have accomplished. Thanks for sharing. Bob
